Blue Willow
The Blue Willow pattern by SCIO is a pictorial story that is printed in cobalt blue under the pottery glaze. The pattern features variations in shades of blue that add to the charm of this old world pattern.
The legend of Blue Willow is a beautiful love story - centuries old. The rich old Mandarin father had an only daughter who fell in love with her father's secretary. The old Mandarin was very angry and forbade the two lovers to meet again. The lovers, after many unhappy days apart, secretly met and flew away together as love birds to be forever happy.
The white stoneware china is augmented with a busy band featuring diamonds, flowers and willow branches. The pattern itself features a detailed scene from the story featuring the Mandarins house behidn a large gate, boats, willows, flowers and two love birds soaring in the sky. Since this is the blue version the artwork is printed in deep cobalt blue over the white base.
